COLLAGEN: A fibrous protein capable of storing tensional forces, collagen plays a key role in skin resistance and firmness. From age 40-45... The natural production of collagen diminishes; collagen bundles are modified and tend to thin out. An increase in glycation (chemical bridging) reactions can also be observed, resulting in the rigidification of collagen fibers.

ELASTIN: A major component of elastic fibers, elastin is a long protein rich in proline and glycine amino acids. It offers exceptional resistance to physical and chemical assaults. Elastic fibers give the skin the ability to regain its elasticity after temporarily stretching. Their proper reticulation and functionality are ensured by an enzyme called Lysyl-Oxidase Like (LOXL). From age 40-45... The synthesis of Lysyl-Oxidase Like (LOXL) enzyme is reduced by 66%, resulting in diminished functionality of elastin, which loses its elastic abilities and breaks.

GROWTH FACTORS: Growth factors are polypeptides that regulate the growth and functions of cells. They also stimulate the fibroblasts. FGF-2 is altered, leading to reduced production of collagen and GAGs.
